Signs your Air Ducts need Maintenance

Out of all of the appliances and luxuries in our home, there is one that stands apart from the crowd. The HVAC system is one of the greatest inventions in modern history. Often overlooked, this appliance has many responsibilities to carry out in making your home a comfortable sanctuary protecting you from stress. This unit has great influence on the air quality and conditions in your home. Ducts typically run above the ceiling, behind walls, through basements and attics. and are very difficult to assess for the untrained eye.

Our technicians would like to share a few tips of knowledge so you can troubleshoot at home with minimal effort! Whether you’re a business owner or homeowner, these details will run consistently whether you have an industrial or residential system.

  1. Your unit just doesn’t work like it used to. Energy Bills rising may be a sign as well. Giving it a bang on the side isn’t going to magically fix it like a computer, but this is the first tell-tale sign that something is bogging down the power or flow of your system. Air flow from the vent may be blocked by dust, debris, or animal nests. If you go outside to the main exhaust outlet, you may be able to get a good sense of your systems output.
  2. There’s no records or recollection of the last time it was cleaned. Take a peek at your vents, do you see dust stuck all around the outlet? As previously mentioned, this is often overlooked, and most homeowners aren’t aware that these need to be serviced as well, just how you maintain your lawn, kitchen, etc. A home inspection includes a look at the HVAC system and Air Ducts for quality assurance before passing down to a new homeowner. Simply put, if you have NO idea when was the last time your ducts and vents were looked at, chances are its about time!
  3. Allergy triggers occur even at home. Is Nana sneezing a bit more than usual? Dust, pollen, pet dander, and even possibly mold can accumulate in your air ducts. Your HVAC is feeding conditioned air throughout your entire house, so if there is a thick build up of dust, it is inevitable for it to be circulated all around in every room.

These are just a few signs you can look out for to be in-the-know about your home!
