Top Dryer Vent Cleaning Tips for Newtown, PA!

Your Dryer vent will certainly let you know, one way or another, when its time for maintenance! From loss of efficiency, higher electric bills, to multiple cycles needed to dry clothes, etc. Outside of these relatively minor inconveniences, there’s the very real threat of self combustion from your Clothes Dryer! The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reported in 2011 that there were nearly 17,000 structure fires related to clothes dryers or combination washer/dryers. The NFPA advises that the main cause is the neglect to properly and regularly clean them.

  1. Cleaning the Lint Trap. This is the most straightforward yet often overlooked step to take! It should be cleaned after EVERY cycle! Your dryer will run more efficiently this way,
  2. Schedule Annually. There are fire codes in place for a very good reason! Dryers are a very real cause of fires, and its recommended to have your dryer vents cleaned out in their entirety every year so they don’t build up pressure.
  3. Make sure you have the proper vents installed, as there are rigid, semi-rigid, and more flexible hosing available, but depending on where it has to travel, there is a more optimal choice to make for safety reasons
  4. Don’t leave your Dryer running unattended. It’s not a good idea to leave the dryer running throughout the day while you’re out of the house. Should an emergency arise for whatever reason, it’s important to be there to help mitigate, call 911, and handle the situation as needed. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby all these appliances for good measure.

    Stay Safe!
